The 2017 purmundus challenge presents forward-looking product ideas from 14 to 17 November 2017 at the formnext trade fair in Hall 3.1-C09 under the motto "Fusion - 3D printing intelligently combined". This is the fifth time that the 3D printing award for the purmundus challenge has been presented in Frankfurt.
On display are designs that show the opportunities offered by 3D printing if you use it to combine things skilfully - be it analogue and digital or additive and subtractive. As part of the competition, participants have faced the major challenge of applying all of these polarities - tomorrow and yesterday - to a present day in which the opposites complement each other in a way that is useful rather than competing against each other.
A total of more than 45 fascinating and innovative entries were submitted in connection with this year's theme. The products entered include stone age tools, knife grips, various different skateboards, a camera and a zoetrope fidget spinner. There are also technical components such as a pneumatic rotor, a jointed-arm gripper robot, a magnet and a nozzle insert. We have also received submissions from the fields of homeware, furnishings, art and construction. Textiles, clothing watches and a fitness tracker as well as a soft robot mask and various medical aids are also in the running. Various new procedures and materials for 3D printing were also submitted for the first time. The participants hail from the UK, France, the US, Israel, Finland, Italy, Austria and Germany.
The panel will select the winners of the purmundus challenge and present them with their award at the exhibition in a ceremony to be held on 16 November 2017 ceremony at stand 3.1-B10, the tct introducing@formnext stage, from 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. (CET). The award ceremony will be broadcast on the facebook page of formnext life. In addition to the first three places, this year there will also be up to two "special mentions" and - for the first time - an "innovation prize". A "people's choice" award, chosen by visitors to the formnext 2017, rounds off the purmundus challenge.
