Receiving an award as part of the purmundus challenge is seen as one of the most important design-related distinctions in the field of 3D and 4D printing. In addition to the top three rankings, the purmundus challenge also gives out “Special Mention”, “Simulation Driven Design”, “Innovation Prize” and "Newcomer Prize" awards. A prize for the “public’s choice”, voted for over the course of the fair by visitors to Formnext, completes the purmundus challenge.The awards are worth a total of 30,000 euros.

The international presence, our broad network, the public interest and the targeted platform help make the purmundus challenge a unique experience for all participants.

The PRIZES

The idea workshop purmundus challenge by cirp GmbH and Formnext are offering prize money of EUR 6000 for purmundus challenge 2021. The winner receives a prize of EUR 3,000, the runner-up prize money of EUR 2,000 and third place prize money of EUR 1,000. In addition, the first three winners will get access for the Altair Inspire Studio. The Altair Inspire platformis an intuitive and powerful software technology platform that facilitates simulation-based design throughout the entire product development process, from concept through to creation.

Together with Altair, the purmundus challenge is also awarding the Simulation Driven Design, with a one-year licence for the complete Altair Inspire platform. The prizes Special Mention, Innovation Prize and Public Choice Award be each awarded with a value voucher of EUR 250, which can be redeemed directly by cirp GmbH in the form of 3D printing services.

All winners also receive the “purmundus challenge trophy”, a certificate, and a winner’s logo. The winner of the Newcomer Prize will design the Newcomer Prize trophy for the following year with Addmio's support.

The GOLDEN categories

Any manner of design may be submitted. The awards go to the best product design in keeping with the competition’s current theme. Participants subject themselves to a cross-sector comparison of 3D and 4D talents, professionals, institutions, and companies of all sizes.

The purmundus challenge will assess the submitted product ideas and arrive at a pre-selection. Up to 35 finalists each year are entered into the special show, and stand a chance of winning the prestigious purmundus challenge trophy.

The international presentation of the special awards has become a cherished tradition. Each year, the purmundus challenge recognises additional, high-quality submissions in the fields of product and industrial design, whose unusual designs feature particularly good dimensional concepts, or solutions that are exemplary for industry and consumers:

Special Mention
With the Special Mention award, the purmundus challenge gives special recognition to fascinating new projects that reflect the hard work and attention to detail of designers in the 3D and 4D sectors.

Innovation Prize
Winners of the renowned Innovation Prize above all set strong trends with an international focus in science in the field of 3D and 4D printing, and highlight potential future directions.

Simulation Driven Design
The Simulation Driven Design award powered by Altair is strong proof of the power and transformative effect of simulation throughout modern manufacturing.

Newcomer Prize
The Newcomer Prize powered by Addmio distinguishes students, start-ups and newcomers.

Public Choice Award
Visitors to the Formnext trade fair can also vote for their favourite.

Voters are also in with a chance of winning a high-quality purmundus designer lamp. A new 3D-printed lamp shade is designed by panel member Frank Kleemann.
